The Rider

My name is Iñaki. A software engineer by profession and a traveller by devotion, I’ve always been drawn to landscapes unlike those of my native Asturias, perhaps in search of the exotic charm of the unfamiliar. For many years now I’ve found the bicycle to be the perfect tool for travelling, the one that gives me just the right speed to get around. At the speed of butterflies, as the great Álvaro Neil would say. Although it’s sometimes hard to forget the frantic pace of racing and focus only on travelling, discovering and learning, I find it easier and easier to pedal slowly and enjoy my surroundings. And to forget about the clock. You have the watches, we have the time, they recite like a mantra in some Arab villages.

You have the watches, we have the time.

I’m devoted to deserts, and I’ve been lucky enough to ride through the Sahara, the Gobi, the Arabian Desert and the Namib. Through Cappadocia, among the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and their yurts, from 427 metres below sea level on the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea to 5,600 metres on the Khardung La in India, the highest road in the world. I’ve always believed that travel brings wisdom, and I still have a lot to learn. And since there’s no travel without chroniclers (or so they say), here is my small contribution: this cycle travel blog.
