Georgia, stage 6 of 6

Georgia 6, from Zhinvali to Telavi

Clean bike, trip over

Today was an easy stage, at least on paper. Although I still had quite a few kilometres to Telavi, the whole route was on tarmac, which made things much easier. Still, those 100 kilometres had to be ridden.

What better way to start than with a climb: not very long, but with some steep ramps. After getting over the top, I rode through a string of villages of no great interest.

Luckily, in one of the villages I found a petrol station with a pressure hose where I could give my bike a good wash. The dust from the day before had been so thick that it had formed a hard crust all over the frame. It also seemed almost impossible to get it out of the drivetrain. Fortunately, the hose had enough pressure to strip paint. I left my bike spotless and carried on towards Telavi.

Towards the end of the trip I passed the imposing Alaverdi Monastery.

And from there to the end, not much else to tell. At last I reached Telavi, where I could relax in the most peaceful town I’d seen on my way through Georgia. I have to admit the trip didn’t work out as I’d hoped but, all in all, Georgia leaves me with great memories. Wonderful landscapes, lovely people and food that, if you haven’t tried it, I can only recommend.
